OSEA PRESIDENT NOT RUNNING

As you may have noted, Bonnie Luisi has decided to not run for re-election as our State President.  We will certainly miss her outstanding leadership.  Bonnie will continue to serve as Past President and mentor to our new incoming leaders.  Thank you Bonnie for your wisdom and friendship.

AFT CONFERENCE DELEGATE VOTING

Just a reminder that we need to get our ballots in for Conference Delgates by April 27th.  You will see on the ballot that there are several members from Zone V looking for the opportunity to go.  I would encourage you to vote for those members from chapters in our Zone so we can have a good showing.  A list of Zone V chapters is on this website (directly to the left of this posting).

SOUTH UMPQUA DRIVERS

Be aware that contract negotiations has reached a pinnacle between First Student and the S.U. bus drivers.  The drivers have been working without a contract since last year.  A settlement does not appear to be in the near future.  A press release was put out last Friday concerning their issues and announcing that an Unfair Labor Practice has been filed against the employer for bad faith bargaining. This ULP joins a long list of bad practices that the employer has been spreading throughout the state.

With the continued sluggish economy it is expected that contract negotiations this year will be difficult once again for all of us.  Now is the time that we all must unite in support of our local chapters and others in the Zone.   There is an old campaign phrase that holds true today.  United we bargain, divided we beg.
CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE WEEK

March 5-9, 2012 has been declared Classified Employee Week.  Classified employees are the backbone of the schools.  They staff the offices, feed the students, keep the buildings clean and safe, help the teachers educate our kids.  Please take a few minutes with me and thank them for the work they do.
